No matter what kind of small business you own, if you have not developed a small business email marketing campaign, you are losing money. Before going any further, I need to make something very clear: Email marketing not the same thing as Spam. Email marketing involves building a list of people who have voluntarily subscribed to your list and sending them valuable content and updates about your product or field. Furthermore, each subscriber must have the ability to unsubscribe at any time. Email marketing is a subject that can and has filled many volumes of books and courses, however the following is a brief overview of a small business email marketing strategy that I hope you will find helpful.
1. Develop free digital content that relates to your product in the form of a report or guide. For example if you sell children’s clothing, you might develop a report called “101 Things to Do with Your Child”, just as an example.
2. Next you will need a good autoresponder. And autoresponder is an application that allows you to collect email addresses and send out previously written emails at predetermined times. There are a number of them on the market so do a little research. You should be able to find one for less than $20 a month that will come with all of the features you need.
3. You will then write a series of emails about things relating to children and children’s clothes. The idea here is to provide valuable content in the form of tips, advice, how-to-info, as well as to inform the reader about your main product. There should be a healthy balance between valuable content and promotions for your product and you want the transitions to be as seamless as possible. You will then program your autoresponder to send out these messages at reasonable intervals. Once or twice a week might work well in this example.
4. You would then develop a simple one page web site that advertises the benefits of your free report and why any parent would want it. You will stress the fact that the guide is absolutely free. You will then add your autoresponder’s opt-in form at the bottom of the page and instruct readers to simply submit their name and email address to get the free report.
5. You then can promote your site in any number of ways such as posting in forums, writing articles, banner swaps, or pay-per-click. Congratulations, you have now developed a small business email marketing campaign that will not only work but that is on total auto-pilot. You autoresponder is your sales staff and for less than $20 a month they can be selling for you around the clock, 24 hours a day.
